Chaos Knights

There's just something undeniably cool about Chaos, it's unapologetic.
Knights are also awesome, and so when Games Workshop released their Chaos knight kit I had to have one.
This is The Old Faith, a Knight Desecrator loyal to the Word Bearers legion and the leader of my knights, as any good word bearer should be, he is decked out with runes both Chaotic and Colchisian and inscriptions from the book of Lorgar

This kit was fun and one day I hope to add a Rampager to this force for maximum stabbing. He is half black and half the colour of old parchment, with a red shoulder to denote his allegiance to the Word Bearers.

This is the first of two War Dogs who serve as slaves to The Old Faith, his name is Oculum but I call him Eyeball. He is clad in black like the left half of his boss's heraldry, with the same red shoulder pad.

Eyeball has half the contents of my chaos tin attached to him, spikes, chains, I even replaced his eye lens with the eye from a chaos spawn, hence his name.

This is Vindicta, the other of The Old Faith's War Dogs, I call him Angry, because his face is just so angry. He represents the other half of his boss's livery, again with the red shoulder pad.

I am especially fond of Angry's banner, which I cut out from the middle of a larger piece.
The transfers on all three knights are a combination of the sheet that came in the Chaos Knight kit, and a Word Bearers transfer sheet from forgeworld.

Salamanders Funko Pop

Yesterday was Warhammer day, and games workshop released a few limited things in celebration. One of those was a "paint your own" Space Marine Funko Pop.
My favourite chapter wasn't available when they released the prepainted unlimited ones, so it seemed like it would be a fun little project to paint a Salamander with a very large head.

I really like how he came out, I freehanded some fire onto him, and I think it worked well. I also think it is sort of apparent how much practice I have had painting fire.

His back is less interesting than his front, but thoroughness demands I show you anyway.

Phil also painted a Funko Pop, his is a Crimson Fist, you can read about it on his blog.
I like the picture of them together.

Noise Marine

A little while ago, Games Workshop released this noise marine, I don't collect emperors children, or even particularly love Slaanesh, but I really like this miniature, so I decided to buy it just to paint.

I painted the whole marine with bright colours and gradients before painting black over quite a lot of it, the new contrast paints worked really well for that, I started the mini before they came out but then put him down for ages, so the bright colours are about half contrast and half traditional.

Some other angles just to show a few more of the colours and patterns, I'm quite pleased with how this guy came out.

The Horus Heresy: 750 Points of Salamanders

This post isn't really 750 points of Salamanders, but I didn't know what else to title it, these are what I have painted this month, which when added to last month's Salamanders round out to 750 points.

Pyroclasts

These guys are the second half of my Pyroclast squad, making them up to the full ten. They were effective last month so I am hoping that twice as many will be twice as effective.

The next squad are some tactical marines with bolters, I had already painted these a few years ago, but I think my painting has improved so I decided to touch them up. I have included photographs of both before and after so you can see what I improved, hopefully you agree with me that it was worth the effort.

Tactical Marines: Before

Tactical Marines: After
Mostly what I did was to overpaint my tragic attempt at OSL on their legs and add edge highlighting to them all, the champion and vexilla got a bit more attention, I am especially pleased with the vexilla, so here is a separate picture of it:
Salamanders Vexilla
Sergeant: Before and After

Here is a final side by side of the sergeant which I think shows my improvement pretty well.

The Horus Heresy: 500 points of Salamanders

Last month I painted 500 points of Salamanders because me and Phil are doing a Horus Heresy escalation campaign, we started with 500 points for February, and we'll be increasing it by 250 points a month.
I haven't posted anything on here in almost three years apparently, but I'm very pleased with how these came out so I'm posting again.

Delegatus
This is my Delegatus, at less than 1000 points he is the only way to have a rite of war, and I really like my rite of war so here he is! I really like his power axe. I also couldn't pick an angle to photograph him from so here's two more pictures:

Pyroclasts
Pyroclasts are really cool, so I am starting with five of them. We're playing the zone mortalis ruleset for our first few games, and their combination melta/flamethrowers work really well there. I love these models, I'll be painting five more this month.

Breacher Marines
Breachers, because I need a compulsory troops choice. the black still shows through the gradient on a few of their shields, but I really liked the gradient so I didn't want to go over it again. I'll put a better basecoat down next time I am painting this sort of thing. Their sergeant has a third party shield to help to mark him out.

So that's my first 500 points of salamanders, I have many, many more salamander models so I should be able to keep on escalating for a while before I run out.
